Dear Families,

During Dd week we worked with dimes. We graphed our favorite kind of donuts (jelly filled, cream filled, chocolate frosting, powdered sugar, or glazed). Centers included making valentine sacks, alphabet bingo, dominoes, telling the teacher what he/she would do with $100, dot to dot worksheets, reading books, and the doctor’s office dramatic play center. On Friday we celebrated our 100th day of school and made necklaces with 100 pieces of cereal on them. We read many books about the 100th day of school. We counted to 100.

Next week we will be learning about the letter Vv. Sharing needs to be something that starts with the letter Vv or a valentine item. Notice the sharing list at the bottom of the sheet!

Keep working on those valentines! Valentines may be brought to school between Wednesday, Feb. 4th and Friday, February 13th. Our party will be on the 13th. We contacted volunteers to provide treats and napkins this week.

Please remember that our outside doors are locked at 8:30 each morning. If you bring your child to school late, then he/she needs to come in the main entrance by the multipurpose room.

Town kids that do not eat breakfast should not come to school before 8:10.

Dear Families,

This week was spent learning about the letter Yy. The kindergartners made Months of the Year booklets. The boys and girls need to be able to say the months of the year in order for the next report card. Reviewing the months of the year at home would be really helful! We have learned about dimes and counting by 10’s. This week we started centers. During center time, the kindergartners rotated through 7 different activities. The children spent approximately 10 minutes at each center and moved when the timer rang. Centers included yahtzee, the dramatic play house, yellow yachts and a yacht dot to dot, yellow objects (beginning sounds), the rice table, journaling about our favorite winter activity, and number bingo.

Next week we will be learning about the letter Dd. Sharing needs to be something that starts with the letter Dd.

Keep working on those valentines! Valentines may be brought to school between Wednesday, Feb. 4th and Friday, February 13th. Our party will be on the 13th. We will be contacting volunteers to provide treats and napkins this week.

Some of our kindergartners are coughing. The nurse would like to remind families that she can not give cough syrup, any other cold medicines, or prescription medication without a doctor’s note.

Please remember that our outside doors are locked at 8:30 each morning. If you bring your child to school late, then he/she needs to come in the main entrance by the multipurpose room.

Dear Families,

What a week! We learned about Martin Luther King, Jr. and dictated two facts we learned about him on a paper. We worked hard at completing all 4 of our Saxon reading lessons for Ee during this crazy week. The kindergartners practiced counting by tens and made Ee booklets.

Next week we will be studying the letter Yy. Since there aren’t many things that start with Yy, kindergartners may bring in any free choice item. Since there is no school on Monday due to teacher meetings, the Monday sharing people may bring their sharing item any day next week.

Some families are thinking about Valentine’s Day already. Children can choose to have a valentine for each child in their particular group or one for each child in the class. (This means that reds could give a valentine to only the reds, or the reds and the blues. The blues could give a valentine only to the blues, or the the blues and the reds.) Attached to this newsletter is the list of names for each group. We encourage children to start working on them early. Writing their own name 20 to 41 times takes a long time. Families can help write the students’ names that the valentines will be given to.

PLEASE SEND BOOTS, HATS, AND MITTENS EVERYDAY TO SCHOOL!!!!!! Hopefully we will get to go outside soon. We want to be prepared when that happens!

We have had a lot of colds and other sick bugs in the classroom. We try to keep germs spreading to a minimum, but that is difficult. We wash hands often, clean the toys, tables, and pencils, and encourage students to cough and sneeze into their elbows instead of their hands. You will be called to pick up your child if we believe that he/she is too sick to be at school. We hope that you understand.

We hope you can keep warm this winter weekend!

Dear Families,

During Cc week we learned about how crayons are made. We practiced reading color words, and reviewed clocks. We graphed our favorite kind of candy choosing from the following: Air Head Extremes, M & M’s, Skittles, Jolly Ranchers, and suckers. We talked about New Year resolutions and journaled our ideas. Since we had 2 Zz week activities that we didn’t get to before Christmas, we did them this week. The kindergartners watched a Backyard Safari video about caterpillars and butterflies.

Next week we will be learning about the letter Ee. Sharing for next week is free choice.

The end of the quarter is currently January 14th. Our school does not have scheduled conferences at the end of the second quarter, but we would be happy to set a time to meet with or call anyone who has questions or concerns.

The students will not have school on Monday, January 19th. The teachers get to have lots of meetings that day.

Please make sure that your child is prepared to go outside every day. The boys and girls need something for their heads/ears, boots (when there is snow or a lot of mud), gloves or mittens, snow pants (when there is snow), and warm coats. It is important that every item is marked with a name. An extra pair of socks put in the school bag would be appreciated! In fact, an extra shirt, pair of pants, and underwear would be appreciated, too. We are to the point that our extra clothes supply is depleted. Moms and Dads will be called to bring in extra clothes if their child needs some because of an accident due to spilled milk, mud, bathroom problems, etc.

We hope that you have an enjoyable weekend!

Mrs. Owens, Ms. Howard, Mr. Degner, Mrs. Pokorny, Mrs. Rohlfsen, and Mrs. Herink
